For greasy, fat-rich and aroma-sensitive products — sweets, bakery items, pharmaceutical tablets, salt and pepper sachets — ordinary paper soaks up oil and offers no reliable seal. GT Pack's Poly Coated Glassine Paper is built for exactly these jobs: a dense, supercalendered glassine base for natural grease resistance, finished with a food-grade polyethylene (PE) coating that adds the moisture barrier and heat-seal that glassine alone cannot provide.
Poly coated glassine paper — also called PE coated glassine paper — is glassine paper that has been extrusion-coated with a thin film of polyethylene. Glassine itself is a smooth, glossy, semi-translucent paper produced by supercalendering: wood-pulp fibres are aligned and the sheet is pressed under high pressure until its pores close, creating a dense, low-porosity surface that resists grease and air without any coating. The PE layer then adds what glassine cannot do on its own — a barrier against moisture and water vapour, and a heat-sealable surface for converting into sachets and wraps.
At GT Pack, the structure is specified base-first — for example Glassine 70 GSM + PE 15 GSM coat — with PE coat weight tuned to the moisture barrier your product actually needs.
Glassine's defining property is grease resistance — and it earns it mechanically, not chemically. Because supercalendering closes the gaps between the fibres, oil and fat travel through the sheet very slowly, keeping the outer surface clean. That makes glassine the preferred base for greasy and fat-rich products:
Uncoated glassine resists grease and light moisture, but it is not waterproof and cannot be heat-sealed. The polyethylene coating closes both gaps:
Choose poly coated glassine when surface quality and grease performance matter most — premium food, confectionery and pharma packs. Choose poly coated kraft when tear strength is the priority, such as industrial wrapping and heavier packs. Choose poly coated poster or chromo paper for economical printed wrappers. Glassine sits at the premium end of the range: the smoothest surface, the best natural grease resistance and the most refined finish.

The two properties buyers test poly coated glassine for are grease resistance and moisture barrier. The comparison below shows what the PE coat changes.
| Property | Uncoated Glassine (reference) | Poly Coated Glassine (PE coated) |
|---|---|---|
| Grease resistance | High — natural, from supercalendering | High |
| Moisture / water-vapour barrier | Limited — not waterproof | Strong — WVTR typically ~10–20 g/m²/day for single-side PE coat |
| Heat seal | No | Yes — seal initiation typically ~80°C |
| Best suited to | Dry greasy wraps, interleaving | Grease + moisture protection, heat-sealed sachets and pouches |
