What Is Poly Coated Glassine Paper?

Poly coated glassine paper — also called PE coated glassine paper — is glassine paper that has been extrusion-coated with a thin film of polyethylene. Glassine itself is a smooth, glossy, semi-translucent paper produced by supercalendering: wood-pulp fibres are aligned and the sheet is pressed under high pressure until its pores close, creating a dense, low-porosity surface that resists grease and air without any coating. The PE layer then adds what glassine cannot do on its own — a barrier against moisture and water vapour, and a heat-sealable surface for converting into sachets and wraps.

Why Glassine? The Natural Grease Barrier

Glassine's defining property is grease resistance — and it earns it mechanically, not chemically. Because supercalendering closes the gaps between the fibres, oil and fat travel through the sheet very slowly, keeping the outer surface clean.
