When the product is greasy, fat-rich or moisture-sensitive — sweets, bakery items, pharmaceutical tablets, salt and pepper sachets — ordinary paper soaks up oil and offers no reliable seal. GT Pack's Poly Coated Glassine Paper is built for exactly these jobs.

It starts with a glassine base — a dense, supercalendered paper that is naturally grease-resistant and smooth — and adds a food-grade polyethylene (PE) coating that contributes the moisture barrier and heat-seal that glassine alone cannot provide.

Why buyers choose it:

  • Strip packing for pharmaceuticals — clean, low-porosity surface for tablet and capsule packs
  • Sachet packaging — heat-sealable sachets for sugar, salt, pepper, tea and detergent powder
  • Bakery & confectionery — grease-proof wraps for sweets, mithai and chocolates
  • Available printed or plain — plain reels suited to automatic packing machines; printed by 8-colour rotogravure

Specifications: 40–120 GSM total · width up to 1500 mm · single-side (C1S) or double-side (C2S) PE coating · high gloss, white · ±10% GSM tolerance · customisable.

Every roll is manufactured in-house at our Greater Noida facility under four ISO-certified systems — ISO 9001, 22000, 14001 and 45001 — and tested to consistent quality parameters before dispatch.

For greasy, fat-rich and aroma-sensitive products — sweets, bakery items, ghee-laden snacks, pharmaceutical wraps — ordinary paper is a liability. It soaks up oil within hours, leaves stains on the outer pack, and gives you no way to seal it. Even standard greaseproof stock stops at grease; it still lets moisture and water vapour through.

GT Pack's Poly Coated Glassine Paper is built for exactly this gap. It starts with a glassine base — a dense, supercalendered paper that is naturally grease-resistant and air-resistant, with a smooth, glossy, low-porosity surface — and adds a food-grade polyethylene (PE) coating that contributes the moisture barrier and heat-sealability glassine alone does not have. The result is a single substrate that is grease-proof, moisture-resistant, heat-sealable and an excellent print surface. Supplied in roll form, 80–120 GSM, widths up to 1500 mm, manufactured under four ISO-certified systems: ISO 9001, 22000, 14001 and 45001.

Quick specs: GSM 80–120 · Width up to 1500 mm · Glassine base + PE coating (C1S/C2S) · Naturally grease-resistant · High gloss, white · Heat-sealable · Made in India

What Is Poly Coated Glassine Paper?

Poly coated glassine paper — also called PE coated glassine paper — is glassine paper that has been extrusion-coated with a thin film of polyethylene. Glassine itself is a smooth, glossy, semi-translucent paper produced by supercalendering: wood-pulp fibres are aligned and the sheet is pressed under high pressure until its pores close, creating a dense, low-porosity surface that resists grease and air without any coating. The PE layer then adds what glassine cannot do on its own — a barrier against moisture and water vapour, and a heat-sealable surface for converting into sachets and wraps.

At GT Pack, the structure is specified base-first — for example Glassine 70 GSM + PE 15 GSM coat — with PE coat weight tuned to the moisture barrier your product actually needs.

Why Glassine? The Natural Grease Barrier

Glassine's defining property is grease resistance — and it earns it mechanically, not chemically. Because supercalendering closes the gaps between the fibres, oil and fat travel through the sheet very slowly, keeping the outer surface clean. That makes glassine the preferred base for greasy and fat-rich products:

The surface is smooth and low-porosity — clean release, with no fibre shedding onto the product.

It is air-resistant, which helps protect aroma and freshness.

It is naturally pH-neutral — an advantage for sensitive food and pharmaceutical contact.

Its glossy, refined finish gives packs a premium look on the shelf.

What Does the PE Coating Add?

Uncoated glassine resists grease and light moisture, but it is not waterproof and cannot be heat-sealed. The polyethylene coating closes both gaps:

Moisture and water-vapour barrier — protects hygroscopic and moisture-sensitive contents.

Heat-sealability — the PE layer melts under heat to form a reliable seal, so the paper can be converted directly into sachets and pouches.

Added wet strength — the sheet holds up better in humid and oily conditions.

Together, glassine plus PE gives you grease resistance, a moisture barrier and a heat seal in a single material.

Where Is Poly Coated Glassine Paper Used?

Bakery & confectionery — wraps and liners for sweets, mithai, chocolates, cookies, pastries and donuts.

Fat-rich & fried foods — packaging for ghee-based snacks, namkeen and other oily products.

Pharmaceuticals — moisture-protective inner-wraps and printed sachets where a clean, low-porosity surface is required.

Food sachets — heat-sealed sachets for spices, premixes and single-serve products.

Interleaving — separating sticky or oily items so they do not fuse together.

Printing & converting — a premium print and pouching substrate; rotogravure (up to 8 colours) and flexo printable.

How Does Poly Coated Glassine Paper Compare to Other Poly Coated Papers?

Choose poly coated glassine when the surface quality and grease performance matter most — premium food, confectionery and pharma packs. Choose poly coated kraft when tear strength is the priority, such as industrial wrapping and heavier packs. Choose poly coated poster or chromo paper for economical printed wrappers. Glassine sits at the premium end of the range: the smoothest surface, the best natural grease resistance and the most refined finish.

Why Buy Poly Coated Glassine Paper from GT Pack?

Manufacturer, not a trader — PE extrusion coating runs on our own lines in Greater Noida, so coat weight, width and finish are all directly controllable.

Four ISO systems — quality (9001), food safety (22000), environment (14001) and occupational health & safety (45001).

Built to your spec — GSM, PE coat weight, width up to 1500 mm, gloss level and colour are all customisable, with a working tolerance of ±10% on GSM.

In-house printing — branded poly coated glassine paper printed by 8-colour rotogravure under one roof.
